WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Heartspring student has died following a Saturday evening crash at the intersection of 40th and N. Webb Rd.

Wichita Police Lt. Chris Marceau said a moving truck was going southbound on Webb when it struck a 19-year-old woman. Police said the woman ran in front of the truck from a ditch on the west side of Webb. The driver of the truck attempted to stop but couldn’t and struck the woman causing her injuries.

On Sunday, it was announced the teenager was a student at Heartspring School.

In a statement, the school said, “Saturday, September 18, just after 8 p.m., a 19-year-old Heartspring School student left an off-campus home environment, was struck by an oncoming truck, and passed away. From all accounts, the staff in the home were intently following current protocols set by Heartspring and outside governing bodies.”

Heartspring said intensive mental health resources are being offered to those affected. The organization and team members are closely working with the family of the student and offering whatever assistance possible.

Police told KSN News they are checking the area to see if there is any surveillance video that could help with the investigation.
