Woman crashes car into Detroit home, arrested for drunk driving

The 63-year-old homeowner was inside the home at the time of the crash.

DETROIT (WWJ) -- A suspected drunk driver is recovering after being injured when her vehicle slammed into a home near downtown Detroit late Friday afternoon.

Detroit police tell WWJ it all unfolded just before 5:30 p.m. Friday when a 33-year-old woman was driving a 2011 Honda Accord and lost control of the vehicle, crashing through a home in the 14400 block of Scripps, near the Detroit Riverfront.

Authorities say the homeowner, a 63-year-old man, was inside the house at the time of the crash, but he was not injured.

The woman was arrested at the scene and released to be treated at a local hospital, pending further information. Police did not say what injuries the woman sustained, but she was last said to be in stable condition.

The woman, whose name was not released, was believed to be speeding at the time of the crash. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
