Music Midtown fans pack Piedmont Park for the first time in 2 years

ATLANTA — For the first time in two years, thousands are able to gather for Music Midtown at Piedmont Park.

“It was packed. It was weird seeing so many people. Especially over the last year, it’s been crazy,” said Matt Hill.

“For something to happen after 2020, it’s amazing,” said Taylor Farrar.

Music Midtown 2021 kicked off at noon on Saturday. The two-day event is expected to bring nearly 50,000 fans to the park.

Many folks are excited to watch the headliners, like Miley Cyrus, Maroon 5 and the Jonas Brothers.

This is one of the first big events in Atlanta since the pandemic and concert organizers are requiring attendees to be vaccinated or show proof of a negative COVID-19 test.

“You had to show your vaccination card to get in,” said Hill.

Earlier this month, organizers held a vaccine event offering free concert tickets to anyone who got vaccinated.

“I love that they did the COVID tests and vaccination card. That’s awesome,” said Kelly Ruden.

Those who got their free tickets along with their vaccine at the September 6 event will still be required to wear a mask inside because they won’t be fully protected yet. But even those who are completely vaccinated say they are taking extra precaution.

“I’m a little nervous,” said Taylor Farrar. “We packed masks just in case because we don’t know how crowded it’s going to be when we get in.

But for many concert goers, it’s worth the risk to once again enjoy some sort of normalcy.

“To be able to do something like this after a whole a year. We were going to come last year but it got canceled,” said Farrar.
