‘He just shot me:’ Newton County jury convicts man of murder after harrowing 911 call

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — A Newton County jury has convicted a man of murder, armed robbery and more after he was identified by the victim as he called 911.

The Newton County District Attorney’s Office says that in November 2018, Trea Johnson assisted in an armed robbery of two people he invited to his Newborn home.

After the armed robbery, Johnson broke into 22-year-old Wintez Moody’s home. Moody called 911 to report the break-in as it was happening.

On the 911 call, an intruder can be heard and Moody says, “It’s Trea Johnson. It’s Trea Johnson.” A gunshot can then be heard and Moody tells the 911 operator, “He shot me. He just shot me, I’m bleeding.”

Moody later died from his injuries.

Investigators learned that Johnson and Moody had been arguing on social media and text messages in the days leading up to the murder.

Johnson was convicted of malice murder, felony murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He will be sentenced at a later date.
