FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A man is in the hospital after a police pursuit ended with him crashing a car on South Anthony Boulevard Friday evening.

Around 8:15 p.m., a Fort Wayne Police Officer saw a dark colored passenger car heading south on Anthony Boulevard near Columbia Avenue swerving in the driving lane with no lights on. The officer turned on their emergency lights to stop the car and began to speak when the driver took off south on Anthony Boulevard.

When the car crossed over Maumee Avue, the driver began to lose control of the car, police said. The car crashed into the front porch of a house, hit the next house and a tree before coming to a stop.

The pursuit lasted roughly a minute, according to police.

The driver was pinned in his car when officers arrived. He was extracted and taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The Fort Wayne Police Fatal Investigators and Air Support Units were called to the scene to investigate.

Police said the initial indications suggest that excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

Anthony Boulevard between Maumee Avenue and Alliger Street is closed. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
