It's been almost two years since the iconic "Beach Blanket Babylon" closed after a 45-year run at Club Fugazi in San Francisco.

Now, a new show is about to open in the space, and its producers know they have quite a bit to live up to.

Former patrons of Club Fugazi might not recognize the space. The balcony is gone, floor seating has been replaced, and the stage has been extended to accommodate "Dear San Francisco," a new production taking up residence here that’s heavy on acrobatics.

Performers will jump through hoops, swing from a trapeze, and do elevated handstands.

"We use every single inch of the stage, including the height and elevation, but we also use the room around the audience," said show co-creator Gypsy Snider.

Along with the acrobatics, the show emphasizes its love for San Francisco. "Each number is dedicated to the essence of the city, a spirit of the city, a transformation over many, many, many years," said Snider.

There are no illusions about the legacy "Beach Blanket Babylon" left behind. Even with the renovations and excitement of the rehearsal happening right now, the old show is still a huge presence.

Especially for cast member Devin Henderson, as San Francisco is his original home. "I just hope we can be even a small sliver of what they created and bring joy and this love for San Francisco back to Fugazi and back to the city."

"Dear San Francisco" begins previews next week before officially opening in October.
