Attempted Homicide Suspect Arrested In Marin

NOVATO, CA — A suspect was arrested Tuesday outside a Novato motel in connection with a Sonoma County shooting earlier this year, police said.

Aman Berhe, 37 of Santa Rosa, was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide among other felony charges in connection with a May 9 shooting, the Santa Rosa Police Department said.

Berhe is accused of firing a single shot, according to police.

His victim was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said.

Officers at around 6:50 p.m. on May 9 responded to a report of a shooting in the 4000 block of Arthur Ashe Circle, police said.

SRPD detectives who took over the investigation later identified Berhe as the suspect, according to police.

Berhe were acquaintances but the motive for the shooting is not yet known, police said.

Detectives believed Berhe was in Novato and began to surveil the 7600 block of Redwood Boulevard Tuesday.

Detectives and officers at around 11 a.m. located Berhe, standing outside of a motel room, police said.

Berhe ran away when officers tried to contact him but was caught within 20-yards and taken into custody, police said.

During a search of Berhe’s motel room, detectives located ammunition, high-capacity magazines, and a loaded handgun.

Berhe is currently on Post Release Community Supervision and is required to submit to searches of his person, residence, and vehicle. He is also on a $1,000,000 bail.

In addition to the attempted homicide charge, Berhe was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a gang member in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, and possession of high-capacity magazines, police said.
