MIAMI GARDENS — Dolphins wide receiver Will Fuller won't play in Sunday's game against the Bills and his absence for personal reasons is indefinite.

"He's dealing with a personal issue," Dolphins coach Brian Flores said Friday. "I've had multiple conversations with him the last couple of days. He is definitely dealing with a personal issue. I respect his privacy. I ask that everyone respects his privacy. We support Will. And we'll take it one day at a time."

The Dolphins signed Fuller to a 1-year, $10.6 million contract before this season. At the conclusion of a six-game league suspension, he was scheduled to make his debut.

Fuller spoke excitedly about playing for Miami at a press conference on Wednesday. But then Fuller was absent from practice the next day for what the club announced was not injury-related.

Flores said Fuller will remain on Miami's roster at this time. He was asked if he believes Fuller will return to the team this season.

"One day at a time," Flores said.

Flores was asked if he thinks this could stretch multiple weeks.

"We'll take it one day at a time," he said.

Fuller was signed away from Houston because he has tremendous speed. Miami will have to go without him but can still suit up DeVante Parker, Jaylen Waddle, Albert Wilson and Jakeem Grant.

"I mean, he didn't play last week," Flores said of Fuller. "Next guy will step in."

Receiver Preston Williams (foot) completed a full practice on Thursday and is an option.

"We still have practice today," Flores said. "We'll work through practice. He's definitely improving from a health standpoint. And we'll just see how today's practice goes, before we make any determination of who is up and who is down."

On Wednesday, Fuller said he missed playing in front of fans.

"Just being back out there playing, helping the team win," Fuller said. "That’s why I play the game. I like helping my team win. Whatever it takes for me to go out there and help my team win, that’s what I’m going to do.”

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said he was working to solidify chemistry with Fuller because the receiver had missed some time due to injury.

Flores conceded that yes, of course he was surprised by this development.

"Things arise in our lives," Flores said. "And that's kind of what he's dealing with right now. He has my support. He has our support. And I mean is it a surprise? Things happen. And you know when they happen they're not part of the normal every day, yeah, it's a surprise from that stand point. But you deal with it. And he's dealing with it. And we'll support him. And we'll make our adjustments as a team. We'll go without him and move forward."
