Joshua Reed will launch the Montgomery Farmers Market on Oct. 16 in the parking lot of Ransom’s Steakhouse at 300 CB Stewart Drive, Montgomery. The farmers market will be an offshoot of the Sanctuary Blueberry Farm in Montgomery, also owned by Reed’s family, he said.

The market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday with about 20 vendors initially, offering a pickup spot for raw milk as well as organic microgreens, produce, grass-fed meats and other items. Reed said the market has space to expand to up to 50 vendors.

"My family has always had a passion for health and wellness, and teaching families how to get healthy, make good decisions for their long-term benefit of their health," Reed said. "Along the way we've learned so many things, we couldn't help but share it with other people."

His family's blueberry farm is a pick-your-own, organically-managed farm with 7,000 plants, Reed said.

"We wanted to be able to have an outlet to reach the community, because there's a lot of people moving into the Montgomery area that are looking for healthy options, they're looking for farm-fresh options," Reed said.

However, Reed said this spring, his family discussed how to serve people beyond the blueberry farm.

"It's time for Montgomery to have a weekly Saturday market that is produce-centered," he said. "We have a mission that's beyond just supporting local businesses. We really want to make it a place where people can come to find good nutrition, to find information on how to live healthy, they can connect with local businesses and ask them questions."

Reed said the market will be more than 50% farm-fresh vendors but will also include some artisan vendors.

"Our main objective is provide people pure products, first, that have no chemicals, nothing that could harm our bodies, and ... provide people with nutrition that will help to keep their bodies sustained and healthy, and then ... to support local businesses, and, finally, to provide people the information they need to make smart choices about their health," Reed said.
