Greenwich Village Sees Jump In Coronavirus Cases: A Breakdown

Over 150 Greenwich Village residents tested positive for the coronavirus for the week ending Sept.13, according to the city.

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — Aligning with a trend seen throughout New York City, Greenwich Village has seen a jump in coronavirus cases since the beginning of the summer.

For the week ending Sept. 13, 154 residents from Greenwich Village's three main ZIP codes —10014, 10012, and 10003— tested positive for coronavirus. For comparison, just seven residents from the same ZIP codes tested positive for the virus from June 12-18.

From Sept. 7-13, the average seven-day coronavirus positivity rate in Greenwich Village was 2.2 percent.

The figure is slightly higher than Manhattan's average rate of 1.97 percent during the same period, but lower than the city's overall rate of 3.05 percent.

Here is a more complete breakdown of Greenwich Village's COVID-19 cases from Sept. 7-13:

  • 10014 (West Village/Meatpacking District): 33 people positive from 1,497 tested. 2.2 percent positivity rate.
  • 10012 (Greenwich Village/SoHo): 27 people positive from 1,335 tested. 2.02 percent positivity rate.
  • 10003 (Greenwich Village/East Village): 100 people positive from 4,182 tested. 2.39 percent positivity rate.

When it comes to the vaccination rate in Greenwich Village, 81.14 percent of residents in the 10014 ZIP code, 75.72 percent of residents in the 10012 ZIP code and 75.76 percent of residents in the ZIP code have received at least one shot.

That compares to 78 percent of Manhattan residents overall having received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
