BROOKLYN, NY — Grab your running shoes — and a plate.

The NYC Pizza Run, which asks New Yorkers to complete a 5K while stopping for a few slices of pizza, is returning to Brooklyn this weekend for first time in two years.

The race, at reduced capacity and with vaccinations required, will kick off in Fort Greene Park on Sunday after a 2020 hiatus, organizers announced.

"After much consideration, we've determined that we'll be able to safely bring back the NYC Pizza Run with a number of precautions in place," founder Jason Feirman said in a release.

As in past years, runners will aim to complete three laps around the park while stopping at checkpoints to eat two slices of pizza along the route.

This year, pizza will be provided by Table 87, which has locations in Brooklyn Heights an Gowanus. The eatery is a favorite for Feirman, who has reviewed hundreds of pizzerias on his blog I Dream Of Pizza.

The event's former pizza provider, Pizza by Car Te, shuttered during the pandemic.

On top of the two free slices of pizza, racers will be gifted NYC Pizza Run t-shirt, race bib, a tote bag and a free drink at local bar DSK Brooklyn when they buy "Early Bird" tickets to enter.

"The past 18 months have been hard on all of us," says Feirman. "Many people have found respite in running. And others have certainly found comfort in pizza. I'm hopeful that despite the recent uptick in cases, that the worst is behind us and that we can celebrate the return of this great event."

A portion of the proceeds from the race is donated to JDRF to support Type 1 diabetes research.
