The Dolphins will be without defensive tackle Raekwon Davis for at least three games after placing him on injured reserve Tuesday.

Davis, a key run-stuffer up the middle, injured his right knee on the fifth snap of the 17-16 victory over New England on Sunday.

Davis walked off gingerly and was examined in the medical tent. He then appeared on the sideline with helmet in hand, seemingly eager to return to action with his knee wrapped up, but coaches held him out of the rest of the game.

Davis was replaced by John Jenkins, who had four tackles in 45 snaps.

Stopping Raekwon Davis required a double team by the Chiefs last season.

"I think there were some good things out there and I think there were some things we could get a little bit better at," defensive coordinator Josh Boyer said of Jenkins' performance. "I thought John went in and did a good job. He’s a solid veteran for us. He gives us good leadership. I thought he played physical."

Jenkins originally played for the Dolphins in 2019, finishing with 34 tackles and a sack, before joining the Chicago Bears for the 2020 season. He was re-signed by the Dolphins as a free agent in April.

Jenkins, 32, said he wasn't caught off-guard when pressed into extended duty Sunday.

"I’ve been around for a while, so you just never know what might happen," he said. "My mind is always thinking playing every game, every snap.”

With Davis out, New England finished with 125 rushing yards and a 4.2 average.

Davis was the Dolphins’ second-round pick (56th overall) out of Alabama last season. He appeared in every game, starting 12, and came on strong as the season progressed. He finished with 40 tackles, which ranked second among rookie defensive linemen in the NFL behind Washington’s Chase Young.

Davis was named to the All-Rookie team as voted upon by the Pro Football Writers of America.
