FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — A man is facing a murder charge a day after a person was shot and killed outside an apartment complex in Fort Wayne.

Derrick D. Dennis II, 25, was arrested Wednesday morning in connection to the killing of Gery Allen Rucker, 19.

Police and medics were called just after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday to Eden Street inside the Villages of Hanna apartment complex on a report of a shooting.

Once crews arrived, they saw that an apartment window had been shot out and a vehicle had been damaged. Police said they immediately secured the scene and witnesses were identified.

A victim was not found at the scene, according to a police report.

While the scene was being processed, Rucker arrived to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police said Rucker was quickly downgraded to life-threatening while at the hospital and later died.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office has determined the cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds, and the manner of death is homicide.

Details about how police arrested Dennis were not released.
