LAS CRUCES - One man is dead while a teenage girl and 19-year-old male are hospitalized after police say their car collided with a tree near La Mesa, New Mexico, on Sunday.

New Mexico State Police Public Information Officer Dusty Francisco said the crash occurred about 6:30 a.m. Sept. 12 and that alcohol appeared to be a factor.

Francisco said that the driver, a 19-year-old male from El Paso, a 14-year-old girl, and Pedro Delgadillo, 19, of El Paso, were traveling south on NM 28 near mile marker 9 when the crash occurred.

Francisco said the vehicle, a 2011 Cadillac CTS, left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver along with a 14-year-old female passenger in the vehicle sustained unknown injuries in the crash, Francisco said. The man and the girl were taken to an El Paso hospital, Francisco said.

Delgadillo, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle, according to Francisco. Delgadillo died on the scene. Francisco added in a news release that the 14-year-old girl was also not wearing a seat belt.

"This crash remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police with the assistance of the New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit. Based on the outcome of the crash investigation, charges may be pending for the driver," Francisco said.
