A five-hour SWAT standoff at a home in Five Points on Friday stemmed from a gang-related stabbing and robbery, El Paso police said.

SWAT officers arrested Andrew Elijah Moreno, 22, on an aggravated robbery charge after the standoff and more arrests are pending, police officials said.

The special weapons and tactics team handled Friday's standoff at a home in the 2900 block of Yandell Drive. The address is next to Piedras Avenue and a block south of El Paso Police Headquarters.

The standoff was linked to a gang-related stabbing earlier that morning under investigation by the Gang Unit, officials said.

Police said that a 20-year-old man was stabbed and a 21-year-old man was beaten during a robbery that occurred between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Friday in the Grandview area of Central El Paso.

The man who was stabbed was taken to a hospital in stable condition, police said. The second man did not require hospitalization.

Later that morning, investigators learned that one of the robbery suspects, Moreno, was at the home on Yandell Drive, police said.

About 9:15 a.m., officers found Moreno at the home but he refused orders to exit, leading to a call out of the SWAT team and crisis negotiators, a police news release stated. About 2:15 p.m., SWAT officers entered the home and arrested Moreno.

Moreno, of the 6300 block of Deer Avenue in the Northeast, is jailed on a $250,000 bond on the aggravated robbery charge, according to an El Paso County Jail log.

He was also booked on two warrants without bond on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assault family violence from 2017.
