A Huntington Beach woman died and a man was hospitalized after the motorcycle they were riding on collided with a vehicle in Huntington Beach on Saturday evening, Sept. 11.

Witnesses said the motorcycle was speeding, popping wheelies and moving erratically as it traveled south on Pacific Coast Highway, Huntington Beach Police spokeswoman Jen Carey said. The motorcycle slammed into a vehicle that was heading north on Pacific Coast Highway and making a U-turn just south of Warner Avenue at about 8:17 p.m.

A woman who was riding on the motorcycle died at the scene. She was later identified as Meghan Wautlet, 22, of Huntington Beach, Orange County Deputy Coroner Kelly Chavez said.

The man driving the motorcycle was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, Mendez said. He remained in treatment Sunday morning.

Police do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, which remained under investigation Sunday, Carey said. No arrests or citations were made immediately following the collision.
