MARTIN COUNTY — A Palm Beach man was killed before dawn Sunday when the car he was driving veered off Interstate 95 near Hobe Sound and crashed into two trees, police said.

The 26-year-old man, whom police did not identify, was traveling southbound in the left lane of I-95 around 3:39 a.m. just south of Bridge Road when he lost control of his sedan-style vehicle, drove off the roadway, then spun counter-clockwise, colliding with two trees on the car's passenger side, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The car then rotated clockwise off the two trees and came to a stop facing south in the grass median. The man was airlifted to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, where he was pronounced dead, FHP said Sunday.

An investigation into the crash is pending.
