An ATV rolled over near the Salt River on Sept. 11, 2021.

A 10-year-old boy was in extremely critical condition on Saturday evening after a rollover accident near the Salt River, according to Capt. Evan Gammage, Phoenix Fire Department public information officer.

Tactical rescue teams for the Phoenix Fire Department responded to reports of an off-road vehicle that had overturned at a home near the Salt River, according to Gammage.

When the teams arrived, they found that the vehicle was about 100 yards from the road and submerged under about 8 feet of water.

Family members at the scene advised the rescuers that there was a boy still trapped in the vehicle, according to Gammage.

The teams rescued the young boy and took him to the hospital, where he remained in extremely critical condition in a pediatric trauma room on Saturday.

Two months ago, another incident involving an all-terrain vehicle led to the death of a couple when the vehicle became trapped in a flash flood near Camp Creek.
