Cybersecurity expert says number of people searching for fake vaccination cards has gone up
There's been a rise in the number of people joining websites to get fake vaccination cards.
Sellers for those fake cards are up significantly too.
Checkpoint Software Technologies, a cyber company, has been studying the black market for fake vaccinations cards.
From August to September, the price for a fake card doubled to $200 and sellers went up tenfold, the company said.
Cyber expert Maya Levine says as people are mandated to get vaccines, many are joining online sites or groups to get the fake cards.
“What they're not thinking about is the fact that they could be putting themselves at risk, because oftentimes you're sharing very personal information in order to get your vaccination certificate. Hackers are not going to be taking that information and throwing it away, they're going to monetize it and they're going to sell your personal information on the dark web,” Levine said.
Levine says hackers are playing on people's fear and anxiety. You're also reminded to be hesitant when opening emails and text messages. If you do not know the source, Levine suggests using Google.
