EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 22-year-old man is in custody after an hours-long standoff with police in Cental El Paso.

Andrew Elijah Moreno is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after an early morning alleged robbery and stabbing, which led to a SWAT deployment in Central El Paso, police say.

El Paso police had a house near the intersection of Piedras and Yandell surrounded as they called on Moreno to exit the property.

The situation began when police were called for “information” about an incident near Wyoming Street around 6 a.m. They later found a 20-year-old had been stabbed in the abdomen and another had been assaulted. Both had non-life threatening injuries, police say.

Police say a suspect ended up in a residence near a bank at the intersection of Piedras and Yandell later on Friday morning. The incident was gang-related, according to police investigators.

A SWAT unit entered the residence where Moreno was hiding and he was placed under arrest.

The 20-year-old who was stabbed was taken to the hospital for treatment to his injuries.
