UPDATE:
The Allen County Coroner has identified a woman killed when she was struck on a bicycle while crossing Stellhorn Road.
The coroner says that the manner of her death has been ruled accidental.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following:
On September 9, 2021, the Allen County Coroner’s Office was contacted by a local hospital and advised of the death of Kathy Darlene Young, a female, white, age 67, of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Kathy Darlene Young rode her bicycle into the path of a motor vehicle and was struck at the intersection of Stellhorn Road and Meridith Drive, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Three Rivers Ambulance Authority transported her to a local hospital where death was pronounced on arrival.
Cause of Death has been determined to be Blunt Force Injuries Due to Bicycle Vs Motor Vehicle Crash and the Manner of Death is Accident. Kathy Darlene Young is the 34th traffic fatality for Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2021. The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Police say that a bicyclist was killed Thursday after being hit by a vehicle at Stellhorn and Meredith Drive, close to the Lassus Handy Dandy gas station.
Police and medics were called around 3:30 p.m. after reports said that a female bicyclist was crossing Stellhorn Road when she was struck by a minivan.
The woman was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the minivan remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Fort Wayne Police Department officials released the following:
On Thursday, September 9, 2021, at approximately 3:31 PM, Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department were dispatched to the area of Meridith Dr. and Stellhorn Rd. in reference to a vehicle crash with injuries. Initial reports indicated that a vehicle had struck a bicyclist.
Upon arrival, Officers found a female/adult bicyclist suffering from life threatening injuries. Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
Preliminary information indicates the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Stellhorn and struck the bicyclist who was heading northbound on Meridith Dr.The occupants of the vehicle were not injured in the crash. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Eastbound Stellhorn Rd. remains closed between Reed Rd. and Eicher Dr. while investigators process the scene.
This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Coroner’s Office, and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The Allen County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim.
