Motorcyclist Critically Injured In Crash With SUV: Santa Rosa PD

The collision closed the intersection of Santa Rosa Avenue and Elsa Drive.

SANTA ROSA, CA — A motorcyclist was seriously injured Tuesday in a collision with an SUV in Santa Rosa.

Multiple 911 callers reported the crash at 11:45 a.m. near the intersection of Santa Rosa Avenue and Elsa Drive in South Santa Rosa.

A blue motorcycle was on the ground and appeared to have collided with a white SUV, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Christopher Mahurin said.The rider of the motorcycle was on the ground and was not moving.

"The rider of the motorcycle was immediately attended to by paramedics and transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries," Mahurin said.

Based on witness statements, it appeared the SUV driver was trying to turn left from the southbound center turn lane onto eastbound Elsa Drive as the motorcyclist was headed northbound on Santa Rosa Avenue and hit the back passenger side of the SUV as it was turning left.

"The rider of the motorcycle was immediately thrown from the bike," Mahurin said.

The SUV driver was not injured and cooperated with investigators.

"The driver of the SUV displayed no signs of impairment," Mahurin said.

The motorcycle rider was not able to speak, so investigators were still trying to determine whether impairment or speed may have been contributing factors.

The intersection of Santa Rosa Avenue and Elsa Drive was closed during the investigation, and a Nixle alert was sent out to area residents.
