Dodgers: Max Scherzer Talks About Joining a Talented LA Team, Hugging Albert Pujols

Max Scherzer will make his much anticipated Dodger debut on Wednesday against the Houston Astros. He’s already made it known how much he’s looking forward to the highly tense series. He’s also discussed his excitement to join such a talented and star studded roster here in Los Angeles.

Who would’ve thought that a team would be able to have guys like Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, Corey Seager, Mookie Betts, Trea Turner, Albert Pujols, and Max Scherzer all on the same roster. Any player would be thrilled to be around that many super stars and even better yet, get a legendary hug from Tío Albert himself. Scherzer didn’t shy away from speaking on the amazing opportunity.

“Yeah, that was pretty cool coming in and being able to give Albert Pujols a hug. You can say that about much of the other guys as well. This is an extremely talented group. I’ve got a chance to compete against them over the years and  I’ve realized what they can bring, what this organization has done over the past handful of years and obviously what they’re capable of doing this year. It’s fun to join these guys because we have a great chance to win but it’s gonna take a lot of work to be able to get there. Nothing’s assured yet.”

The Dodgers certainly have a great opportunity to defend their crown and win back-to-back World Series titles with the team they have. After dealing with numerous injuries all year as well as a lack of production from key players, they’ve managed to stay in the hunt. Now with the addition of Max Scherzer, Trea Turner, and Danny Duffy as well as the return of healthy players, Los Angeles is more than capable of making another postseason run.

Just as Scherzer mentioned, there’s still work to be done for the ball club. They’ll have to either hold off other teams in the Wild Card hunt or continue to pressure the Giants for first place in the NL West. Of course, winning the division would be the ideal choice as it would ensure they skip the one-game Wild Card round as well as remain in contention for the best record in the league, guaranteeing them home field advantage.

They have the firepower and talent to pull it all off, as well as the fact that they’ll receive a Pujols hug for succeeding.

  1. So let’s see. Bellinger out of lineup, Dodgers score 13. Bellinger in lineup, Dodgers shut out. Hmmmm

    1. You’re right. I know he’s an asset defensively which is very important, but I have been pondering where in the line-up he could be placed w/ out being a detriment to the offense. Wherever they pencil him in, he has been a rally killer w/ men on bases. Last night w/ JT on 3rd and CT3 on 1st, 2 outs, needing a run to @ least tie, Belli struggling all season; why not send CT3 over to create a run or have 2 runners in scoring position and/ or have Belli drag bunt down 3rd. W/ his speed he can generate an important run and/or put pressure on Astros’ pitcher and defense. Bell’s athleticism must be used instead of striking out or popping up, and killing opportunities. Again embarrassing offense w/ no adjustments and creativity to score when facing an opponent’s pitcher on his game.

  2. Scherzer must have 2nd thoughts about joining the Dodgers now after hearing and seeing all the Dodgers’ starters pitch very creditable games to win but the all-star line up can not hit and score runs to win. Hope he still have a positive outlook.
