39-year-old man taken to hospital after crash near East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery

The crash closed the eastbound right lane of Gov. John Sevier Highway, in East Knox County.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A 39-year-old man was taken to the hospital after a crash on East Gov. John Sevier Highway, near the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetary, according to Knox County Rescue.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation said the crash was reported around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, near the French Broad River. It closed one of two lanes on the eastbound side of the road, according to officials.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said a 2005 Honda CRV drove off the road on the right side, hit a concrete pipe, and went airborne. It then landed and started overturning, eventually stopping at the right side of the road, according to authorities.

Only one car was involved in the crash, according to officials. The injured man was identified as Robert Jenkins Jr., from Knoxville.
