New York City has issued a vaccine mandate for certain indoor spaces

Many wonder if it’s a sign of what's to come in our area.

So far officials say there will be no new mask mandate or proof of vaccination requirement.

However there is evident concern in Luzerne and Monroe Counties, already reaching a substantial level of transmission.

“Look I'm all for vaccine cards, as long as we’re gonna monitor what everyone is eating, and then if we’re working five days a week.”

10x fitness owner, Daniel Cronauer says he is glad that his gym isn’t in the middle of New York City.

His relief comes after the news that proof of COVID-19 vaccinations are vital to execute everyday activities around the Big Apple, whether that’s dining in or working out at a gym.

He’s no stranger to standing up to state mandated orders, keeping his gym open throughout the pandemic, receiving a number of citations when lockdowns happened.

“Where do you draw the line, like what is the next step, take your temperature before leaving the house everyday? I don’t know what the end game is for the vaccine cards I’m definitely not qualified to check somebody’s card and make sure they have one," said Cronauer.

But everyone is not exactly on the same page.

Stroudsburg Mayor Tarah Probst an advocate of science, personally knowing people who have been severely ill from COVID, says its time to toughen up on mitigation efforts in areas that are hotspots.

“You know, for everyone that questions it, since when everybody are scientists and doctors. And when you question it, and you find your own reasons and it makes you feel smart, I just think it’s a little ridiculous. I know people that have been severely sick from COVID. All of them are unvaccinated, to keep the public the health to be the best that it can be I don’t see a problem with checking on vaccinations," said Mayor Probst.

Hazleton City Mayor Jeff Cusat, states otherwise.

“I feel its up to each individual to decide whether or not they get vaccinated. You know my body my right, has meaning in several different spots. If i am told I have to show proof of vaccination I would never visit a place that would ask me about my health and my HIPPA restrictions," said Mayor Cusat.

The question if Stroudsburg will ever require vaccination cards, as of right now the answer is no. However Mayor Probst strongly encourages vaccinations.

Mayor Cusat says he would never consider proof of vaccinations in the city of Hazleton.
