Woman With Pitbull Leads CHP On Bizarre Sherman Oaks Chase

A woman attempted to flee police on the 405 Freeway in a car filled to the brim and a pitbull hanging out the driver's window Tuesday.

The chase began on Haskell Avenue near the Ventura (101) Freeway in the Sherman Oaks area​ at about 4:30 p.m. when the driver failed to yield to police, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A woman suspected of hit-and-run led police on a bizarre chase through the San Fernando Valley with a pitbull leaning out the window Tuesday afternoon.

The chase began on Haskell Avenue near the Ventura (101) Freeway in the Sherman Oaks area at about 4:30 p.m. when the driver failed to yield to police, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. She fled north along the San Diego (405) Freeway to the North Hills area where she stopped and surrendered near the Devonshire Street offramp on the 405 just before 4:45 p.m.

The woman's badly damaged vehicle appeared to be filled to the roof with debris, and she drove with her trunk flying open, a shredded tire and the dog hanging out the driver's side window, KTLA reported.

After she surrendered, animal control officials were called to see to the welfare of the woman's dog.

Authorities did not release further details regarding the suspect nor the hit-and-run incident leading up to the arrest.
