Throughout the Borderland El Pasoans reflected on the second year mark of the August 3, 2019 Walmart shooting that took the lives of 23 people.

“It felt like even my world was ending,” said El Pasoan Humberto Armendadiz “I was in disbelief. I didn’t think it was real.”

Two years later El Pasoans still felt the pain as they remembered those whose lives were ripped away.

“We’ve never had that type of incident happen here just because of the color of your skin so since the majority is Hispanic I think a lot of people were heartbroken,” Victoria Prado.

They remember the moment El Pasoans chose love when it was easier to hate and open their arms during a time of grief.

“I feel like we all really hugged each other and haven’t let go since,” said Michael McNair.
