Woman sought in grandparents’ burglary




Burke County deputies are looking for a woman who trashed her grandparents’ home and stole money and other items from them.

According to a report from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to Farmers Bridge Circle on Saturday, July 30, in reference to a burglary.

The victim, James Boyd, stated he and his wife and had just returned home from a three-week visit to Tybee Island to find their granddaughter’s SUV and a pickup truck in their driveway. Once inside, they discovered “a white, slender build, brown haired male hiding in the bedroom closet” and their granddaughter, Lauren Stewart, 23, on the couch “high as a kite.” Boyd said he told the man to get the truck out of his yard, at which time the pair hooked it to Stewart’s vehicle with a chain and drove off.

According to the report, Boyd said the patio door was broken and the house was trashed, a hole was in the wall, clothing was missing and approximately $300 in coins was missing. Additionally, several rounds of ammunition had been moved from the shed to inside the home, and the shed “had been pried open and ransacked.”

The victim also reported the battery to his boat was missing and that the gas tank had a large hole cut in the center where the gas was drained out of the tank. His Dodge Ram pickup truck had also been ransacked and the CB radio and liner was stolen, the report said. He also found a checkbook belonging to someone from Richmond County inside his home.

He told deputies he was unsure of the value of the clothing, damaged property and other items.
