TOLUCA LAKE, CA — Council District 4 residents can voice their input on council redistricting during a Wednesday night public forum with the Los Angeles City Council Redistricting Commission. The commission hopes to gather opinions from residents about the community, schools, churches, parks and other landmarks, to better inform the realignment of council districts in Los Angeles.

Council District 4 contains Sherman Oaks, Toluca Lake, Silver Lake, portions of Hollywood and other nearby communities. The online meeting will start at 6 p.m. Wednesday night.

"Participating in this process can be just as important as voting and we highly encourage all CD4 residents to attend," Councilwoman Nithya Raman said in a statement. "If you’re unable to attend, you can still provide your feedback via the LACCRC website at laccrc2021.org. You have the power to shape this conversation, so make your voice heard!"

City redistricting takes place every 10 years after the decennial U.S. Census, with the goal of redrawing council maps to account for population changes and ensure each district is equal in population. The City Charter requires Los Angeles to complete the process by December 31, 2021.

"Redistricting helps assure that communities have equal access to political representation," the redistricting committee wrote. "How and where district boundaries are drawn can shape the communities’ ability to elect the representatives of their choice. It is important that each elected official represent about the same number of constituents. The testimony and input of the residents of Los Angeles is critical to creating a redistricting plan that provides fair and effective representation for all residents of the City."
