The routine traffic stop led the Davis Police Department to uncover a “ghost gun” manufacturing operation in Davis.

Patrol officers pulled over Demori Fobbs, 20, for several vehicle code violations and it was determined that Fobbs was on searchable felony probation out of Sacramento County and was prohibited from having weapons, according to the Davis Police Department’s Facebook post.

Officers found ammunition, a partially completed AR-15 rifle lower receiver and tools that could be used to complete the receiver and make a functional rifle, according to the post.

Detectives from the department’s Community Policing and Problem Solving Unit and the Investigations Division continued the investigation by serving a search warrant at an apartment located at 801 J Street, Davis. They encountered James Goodwin, 20, who had a loaded Glock 9 mm pistol in his waistband outside of the apartment.

A search of the apartment led detectives to find a Glock 10 mm pistol with an aftermarket auto sear that could make the weapon fully automatic, a lower receiver for another 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, high capacity magazines and additional tools that are commonly used in manufacturing and modifying firearms components.

“Manufacturing techniques such as these produce what is known as ‘ghost guns’ as they are not serialized or registered,” the post stated. “‘Ghost guns’ are commonly used to commit street crimes and shootings because they can be easily obtained by prohibited persons.”

Anthony Broadnax, 21, Dewayne Dixon, 20, Fobbs and Goodwin were all placed under arrest for multiple weapons charges including manufacturing firearms, conspiracy to manufacture firearms, possession of a machine gun, possession of high capacity magazines and ammunition charges. All four were booked into the Yolo County Jail.
