CMPD: Woman Struck, Killed By Impaired Driver In West Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A pedestrian was struck and killed by an impaired driver early Saturday morning in west Charlotte, according to police.

Officers responded to West Boulevard, off of Remount Road, around 12:45 a.m. after a report of a serious injury crash involving a pedestrian in the area. Upon arrival, a severely injured pedestrian, identified as 30-yera-old Bianca Broom, was located in the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene by Medic.

An investigation revealed that Broom was crossing the westbound travel lanes of West Boulevard, walking north to south, when she was struck by a gray 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was traveling west on West Boulevard.

The Chevrolet, driven by Michael Green Jr., was traveling at an excessive speed, according to police. Green did not stop at the crash site and continued to drive westbound until the Chevrolet became disabled on West Boulevard, several blocks away from site of the incident. An officer located Green, and the Chevrolet, shortly after the crash.

Green admitted his involvement in the crash and was found to be impaired by an alcoholic beverage, according to police.

Police said Green was arrested and charged with felony death by vehicle, felony hit and run, driving while impaired, and open container.
