57 years of tradition: Millard Days dates are set
The dates are set for year 57 of the Millard Days celebration. The celebration consists of six days filled with all kinds of activities including the DC Lynch Carnival, a traditional parade, a horseshoes tournament, a family activity tent, and an entertainment tent with bands performing Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.The celebration was first hosted in 1964 by the Millard Jaycees when they hosted a "barbecue" near the creek. Since that initial celebration, Millard Days has grown and now involves 12 organizations in the community with hundreds of volunteers.Proceeds from Millard Days goes to raising funds for community improvement programs. More than $384,000 has been raised for programs throughout the past five decades. Beneficiaries in the past have included the West Papio Trail Project, Andersen Park Redevelopment, Boys/Girls State, and more. "It is the one event that has the potential to bring everyone in the Millard area together. Thanks to the support of all our volunteers, sponsors, and the people that continue to attend Millard Days, we hope to continue the tradition for years to come,” said JR Christiansen, the 2021 Millard Days Chairman.
