RTC services continue to be disrupted Wednesday as dozens of bus drivers enter day two of striking.

Officials said the strike will have significant impacts on those using the buses for transportation. Contingency plans and modified transit routes will be provided on the RTC website. If you rely on public transportation, you are urged to find alternative ways to get around town.

Some routes will still be in service as managers on duty drive zones around the RIDE routes. Those drivers will be doing wellness checks and emergency transportation if necessary.

Also, Whittlesea Taxi, Reno Sparks Cab Company and RTC FlexRIDE will keep some routes open.

The strike, involving approximately 200 drivers, started at noon on August 3 at various stops including the main station off 4th Street in downtown Reno.

Drivers told News 4- Fox 11 they began striking after weeks of failed negotiations between the Teamsters Union 553 and Keolis, the company that contracts with the Regional Transportation Commission.

The Teamsters Union went on to say that despite Keolis receiving $15 million in government support from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, the company made a proposal to eliminate Teamsters Health insurance with 60 days' notice.

The RTC is also expected to get $19 million from the American Rescue Plan.

"We told Keolis the proposal is a poison pill and violates the Health and Welfare Trust Agreement. Keolis refuses to withdraw this language."

Keolis' vice president of marketing, communications and corporate affairs released the following statement:

Keolis is committed to providing safe and reliable transit for passengers, and to providing a safe and comfortable workplace for employees. While today's actions by Teamsters Local 533 are disappointing, Keolis will continue to work with the employees and the RTC to provide passengers a predictable level of service, and continue to work towards agreement on a CBA.
