Hotel, restaurant set to open at long-vacant Highlands properties
Two formerly abandoned properties along Bardstown Road in the Highlands are being transformed into a 21-unit apartment/hotel and restaurant, Louisville Business First reports.
The Bellwether Hotel, 1300 Bardstown Road, fills the space of the former Highlands Police Station and the adjacent building which previously served as the home of the Louisville Ballet, according to a news release. The corner, which previously was owned by the city of Louisville, has been reimagined into a "low-touch hotel" while preserving and highlighting the history of the buildings.
The Bellwether is expected to open later this month.
One of the developers said when he filed plans with the city of Louisville that he is planning 21 units with kitchenettes on the site that will average about 350 square feet.
"The hotel will be the gateway for up to 50 new visitors a day to explore the Highlands and support neighboring businesses, many of which are locally owned," one of the developers said.
The Bellwether Hotel will offer guests a modern, unique experience with each room fashioned to pay homage to community namesakes, primarily local historical figures, and key thoroughfares in the Highlands.
