Two people are dead after shooting, standoff in Waco

Waco Police responded to the 700 block of Rambler Drive to reports of a shooting, shortly after 10 am.

Police say a shooting occurred between two people at the Rex-Plex apartment complex, the victim died from his injuries. The victim has been identified as 65-year-old Alva Stem Jr.

When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect barricaded himself in an apartment. SWAT and hostage negotiators were also dispatched to the area.

As SWAT and the hostage negotiators were staging, the suspect came out of the apartment with a weapon and shots were fired.

Officers returned fired and hit the suspect. According to Waco PD, the deceased suspect is 76-year-old Ent Wright of Waco.

After approaching Wright, they started performing life-saving measures, but he died from his injuries.

"This is a very, very tragic situation for two families," Victorian said.

Chief Sheryl Victorian said that in total, 9 officers discharged their weapons and as is customary the officers have been placed on administrative leave. No officers were injured during the incident.

The Texas Rangers are assisting in the investigation.
