Fans of the iconic Crosstown Barbecue restaurant now have another option for where to get ribs, beef and more.

After 51 years of business on Springfield's north side, Crosstown Barbecue opened a food truck in July at 1265 E. Battlefield Road.

For years, owner Steve Williams said people would always tell him they wished his restaurant was on the south side. Williams said he has been trying to get an option on the other side of town for 40 years.

Williams eventually settled on a food truck as the right option to bring his food to the south side instead of investing in an expensive building.

The Crosstown truck offers different options than the brick-and-mortar location on Division Street, such as smoked turkey legs and BBQ nachos. The Crosstown food truck is not able to offer fried foods.

Like many other business owners, Williams has been struggling to find enough employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, he is only able to have the food truck open Wednesday through Friday. But he hopes to expand the hours once he is able to hire more staff.
