Worcester firefighters tackle early-morning blaze on Alpine Street

WORCESTER — An early-morning fire on Alpine Street went quickly to two alarms on Tuesday. 

Firefighters arrived at 12 Alpine St. at 6:27 a.m. to find heavy fire in rear enclosed porches on the third floor and attic of the three-decker residence.

The fire was put out and the cause was determined to be careless disposal of cigarettes, said Deputy Chief Martin Dyer.

Dyer said 12 residents were displaced, and one firefighter was treated by EMS for overexertion.

The third floor and attic suffered significant damage, with water damage throughout the building.

Firefighters knocked down the blaze in under an hour.
