8 Delaware festivals making a return this summer and fall

We all missed out on some of our favorite seasonal festivals due to pandemic cancellations and postponements, but we have some good news. 

Throughout the rest of the year, many festivals are making a return amidst lifted restrictions. 

Whether you love peaches, beer, tacos or all of the above, here are eight fun events around the state worth checking out: 

Wyoming Peach Festival

The Wyoming Peach Festival is on Saturday, Aug. 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Railroad Avenue in Wyoming. 

The event will feature a parade and a peach dessert contest, plus crafters, vendors, food and various displays. There also will be a children’s area.

A free shuttle bus will run from W.B. Simpson Elementary School and Wyoming United Methodist Church on the day of the festival. Handicapped parking can be found at Pippin’s Funeral home.

Delaware Taco Festival 

Hundreds of people eat and drink at the Delaware Taco Festival at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington.

The fifth annual Delaware Taco Festival takes place Saturday, Sept. 25, at Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park in Wilmington. 

Twenty-five of Delaware’s best restaurants and food trucks will serve more than 75 varieties of tacos. Related food items such as churros, nachos and Mexican corn will be available for $3 each.

The event has live entertainment including authentic Mariachi music, carnival games and a mechanical bull.

More than 30 types of tequila will be available for purchase and a margarita bar will be set up, too.

Kids activities, giveaways and more will be held throughout the festival.

Delaware Beer, Wine and Spirits Festival 

The Delaware Beer, Wine and Spirits Festival is a showcase of various craft producers held in Dover.

The Delaware Beer, Wine and Spirits Festival will celebrate its 11th year on Saturday, Aug. 28, at the Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village from 5 to 7:30 p.m. 

Every producer on the Delaware Beer, Wine, and Spirits Trail will be featured at the event, with a VIP tasting and dinner voucher taking place from 4 to 5 p.m.

Other offerings include outdoor games, food trucks, live music and special exhibits. Guided tours of the agricultural museum will be held throughout the evening.

Historic Odessa Brewfest

The eighth annual Historic Odessa Brewfest will be held Sept. 11, with 32 breweries from Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey competing for the title of champion.

The eighth annual Historic Odessa Brewfest will be held on Sept. 11 from noon to 6 p.m. in downtown Odessa. 

A ticket to the  21+ festival gets you an unlimited sampling of beer until the taps close at 5 p.m.

National and regional craft beers will be offered as well as locally produced wine and spirits.

The event will feature live bands, food and merchandise vendors.

Southern Delaware Wine, Food and Music Festival

The Southern Delaware Wine, Food and Music Festival will be on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at Independence Clubhouse in Millsboro.

In its sixth year, the festival will feature food from Delaware’s top coastal restaurants and offer tastings of over 75 wines, spirits and locally brewed craft beers.

Other attractions include a silent auction featuring baskets with the “tastes, sights, sounds and culture coastal Delaware has to offer,” and a wine wall where attendees can pick any wine from their selection for just $20. There will be over 100 selections ranging from $10 to $100 a bottle.

Proceeds from this event will be donated to local nonprofits working to strengthen the community of southern Delaware.

Lewes Oktoberfest 

Fall festivals are returning including Oktoberfest in Lewes.

Lewes’ Oktoberfest is on Saturday, Sept. 25, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.

The festival will have German Oktoberfest beers like Dunkel, Pilsner and Hefeweizen in the Biergarten, plus Germain food favorites including bratwurst, jaeger schnitzel and sauerkraut. A traditional Beer Ceremony will be held at 4 p.m.

Attendees must be 21 or older to consume alcohol from the local craft breweries at the festival, but food vendors, artists and Rehoboth Beach merchants will be present, too.

Apple Scrapple Festival 

The Apple Scrapple Festival makes its return to Bridgeville after being postponed last summer.

The festival opens at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, and 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9.

A daily schedule for the 29th annual festival shows a list of activities being offered including a street dance on Oct. 8 in the evening and the Mayoral Scrapple Sling on Oct. 9 in the afternoon. Oct. 9 will kick off with carnival rides, games for kids, live entertainment, a car show and much more.

The fun also includes crafters, vendors and of course, lots of scrapple- and apple-inspired foods such as apple dumplings, scrapple sandwiches and ice cream.

Cheestoberfest 

If you love cheese, Oct. 9 is a date to circle on your calendar as you plan a trip to Dover.

Fordham and Dominion Brewing Co. will hold its Cheestoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 9, from noon to 6 p.m.

Due to the impact of COVID-19 on the restaurant industry, the event will be a bit different than years past.

At least eight food trucks will be in front of the brewery to sell cheesy foods. Attendees will be able to vote for their favorite food truck while enjoying a wide variety of beers and live performances from a German band.
