PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Portsmouth Police have released more details in a shooting that killed a 15-year-old boy who Monday night.

Police say the call came in reporting a gunshot wound victim in the 200 block of Chowan Drive around 8:30 p.m. Monday.

The boy was discovered at the scene and taken to a local hospital with injuries believed to be life-threatening. He later succumbed to his injuries. Next of kin has been notified.

Police say a homicide investigation is now underway.

Police have released videos and a photo in connection with the incident. In the photo, it shows a black, 4-door vehicle police say is connected to the shooting incident. One of the video, which shows the yard of a home, contains audio of gunshots from the incident. The other video shows figures running outside a building in multiple directions.

10 On Your Side went to the scene late Monday night and saw investigators had marked more than 20 shell casings along Chowan Drive in front of Ashton Village Apartments.

Some witnesses told 10 On Your Side they dropped to the floor and prayed bullets wouldn’t come through their walls. Others watched from the window.

The boy’s death marks the city’s 15th homicide this year and those in the neighborhood tell us they want to take action.
