As Hoosiers enter August with federal guidelines suggesting even the vaccinated mask up to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the highly-infectious Delta variant makes up 100 percent of all new samples.

According to the Indiana Department of Health, there were 616 cases reported Monday from the weekend across the state.

Ninety-three of those cases were here in northeast Indiana, where the 7-day positivity rate sits at 7 percent.

No new deaths were reported around Indiana.

There are now 902 Hoosiers hospitalized with the virus.

DeKalb, Steuben and Huntington counties are in the state’s second-worst category for community spread of the virus, measured by cases per 100,000 residents and 7-day positivity rates.

Most of northeast Indiana is in the state’s second-best category, and only Adams, Wells and Wabash counties are in the state’s best category.

There are 3,710 recorded breakthrough cases of the virus among the fully vaccinated, just over 0.12 percent of the total number vaccinated.

Indiana is now over 50 percent fully vaccinated, with 2.95 million Hoosiers having received full doses of the COVID vaccine.
