BRISTOW, Okla. (KTUL) – A massive fire is burning Monday at a tire recycling facility in Bristow.
The spread of the fire has been stopped, and no injuries were reported.
But Bristow Fire Chief Charles Conkling said the big fire is a strain on the manpower and water supply of the small department.
“It’s been a struggle, because we just don’t have enough water to put something this massive out,” he said.
They’ve been shuttling water to the site - Oklahoma Tire Recyclers on Old Trail Road.
“We’ll be maintaining it throughout the day, and if need-be tomorrow,” he said.
Conkling said they know the fire was set by someone, because there’s no heat source – like power lines – in the far east part of the property, where the fire started overnight.
But Conkling said they don’t know if the fire was set intentionally or accidently.
At this point, it’s just a waiting game - maintaining the fight and waiting until the fire is out.
“It’s just going to be something to babysit,” the chief said.
