COVID-19 Monday update: Abilene area hospitalizations continue to increase

The Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District reported Monday one COVID-19-linked death and 113 new COVID-19 cases since the last report on Friday.

Total county deaths connected to the coronavirus is 418.

Of the new cases, 48 are based on polymerase chain reaction tests. 

No additional recoveries were reported.

Active cases total 578 (254 PCR cases and 324 based on antigen tests). A week ago, active cases numbered 327.

The percentage of COVID-19 inpatients in the Abilene trauma service area was 8.00% Sunday, compared to 6.90% Saturday and 6.89% Friday, according to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services. 

The 16-county Abilene trauma service area had 65 COVID-19 inpatients Sunday, according to the state website, which is more than double the 32 reported a week ago.

Brown County adds 128 new cases last week

BROWNWOOD – Brown County health officials reported Friday 128 new COVID-19 cases last week, topping the 107 of the previous week.

The county also reported 11 COVID-19 hospitalizations and 155 active cases Friday. The previous week, there was four inpatients and 103 active cases.

Compared to the 128 new cases last week, Brown County had nine for the week of July 2 and 31 the week of June 4. This year's high for a weekly total was 297 on Jan. 8.

The current totals for COVID-19 testing in Brown County as of Friday were:

  • Total positive: 4,658
  • Total negative: 9,084
  • Cases confirmed by PCR test: 2,251
  • Cases confirmed by antigen test: 2,407
  • Deaths: 142
  • Average age of deceased: 67
  • Recovered: 4,361
