Man accused of murder after weekend shooting

LAS CRUCES - Police on Sunday detained a man accused of first-degree murder and shooting at a dwelling. 

Isaiah Taylor, 19, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, shooting at a dwelling and two counts of aggravated assault, according to the Doña Ana Detention Center. 

A Las Cruces Police Department news release stated police officers responded to a call of shots fired at a party on the 1800 block of Chaparro Street about 3:30 a.m. Saturday. At the scene, officers found a deceased male with at least one gunshot wound.

On Monday, LCPD identified the victim as 23-year-old Nicodemus "Nico" Gonzales. Police said Gonzales was shot in the leg and pronounced dead at the scene.

Details of the shooting or additional court proceedings were not immediately available because the case was under seal.
