KENNEWICK, Wash.-- [UPDATED] A 16-year-old has been taken into custody after a two-hour crime spree in Kennewick, including hitting an officer in the head with a liquor bottle.

Police say they weren't able to stop the suspect sooner because of the new police reform laws now in effect.

Kennewick Police say leading up to the crime spree, days prior, there were several attempts to put the teen in contact with mental health resources, they say he refused.

On Saturday officers say several calls came in about the teen, some saying he was blocking traffic and acting erratically in the road near Clearwater and Columbia Center Boulevard.

KPD says one victim reported the male exposing himself and allegedly touching her in a sexual manner before taking off.

Police say the teen allegedly pushed over a motorcycle and caused damage to several other parked cars.

Police say he also exposed himself to officers.

Eventually, KPD tried to make contact with the teen, and that's when he hit an officer over the head with a glass bottle that he had allegedly stolen earlier in the night, according to police.

That bottle shattered over the Sergeant's head, but investigators say he was uninjured.

The suspect was then tased and taken into custody with minor injury, near the At Home in Kennewick.

The teen is booked in the Juvenile Justice Center and facing a number of charges including assault in the 4th degree with sexual motivation.

Police say it took so long because officers needed to establish probable cause.
