HOUGHTON COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - A downstate child has drowned in a U-P lake.

According to WLUC-TV6, Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post were dispatched to the Torch Lake area last Thursday at approximately 7:30 p.m. for a report of a possible drowning.

The Brighton area family was camping in the area when their 20-month-old daughter wandered off. She was found unresponsive a short time later in Torch Lake.

Family and EMS attempted CPR and other life-saving measures. The child was transported to Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor where additional life-saving measures were attempted.
