A hit-and-run driver struck and killed a pedestrian early Monday in Santa Monica, authorities said.

SANTA MONICA, CA — A pedestrian was killed early Monday in a hit-and-run crash in Santa Monica, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

The crash happened about 1 a.m. in the 3100 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, police. The pedestrian died at a hospital.

The pedestrian's name was not immediately available.

Officers closed the area to traffic during an investigation along Santa Monica Boulevard, between Berkeley and Franklin streets, Oshiro said. They were looking for surveillance video to find possible suspect vehicle information.

The suspect vehicle, a dark color newer sedan, was last seen driving eastbound on Santa Monica Boulevard, Santa Monica police Lt. Rudy Flores told Patch.

Detectives are conducting necessary follow up, interviewing victims and reviewing the available evidence, police said.
