Des Moines man critically injured in crash on reportedly stolen motorcycle
The Des Moines Police Department said a motorcyclist remains in critical condition following a crash on MLK Jr. Parkway.Des Moines police and fire rescue personnel responded to MLK Jr. Parkway and Francis Avenue around 3:44 p.m. Sunday to investigate a crash between a car and motorcycle. A preliminary investigation indicates that the 40-year-old Des Moines man was traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic prior to the crash.Police said a 20-year-old Des Moines woman driving a Chevrolet Impala turned left on MLK Jr. Parkway into the path of the motorcycle and that the motorcycle crashed into the passenger side of her car. Further investigation found the motorcycle had been reported stolen.First responders transported the man operating the motorcycle. He remains in critical condition. Police said the man was not wearing a helmet when the crash occurred. The driver and passengers of the car were not injured in the crash. The crash and reported motorcycle theft remain under investigation.
