108,000 pounds of litter collected in Marion County in June

Over 108,000 pounds of litter were collected in Marion County in the month of June.

The information is part of the new Solid Waste Operations Report for June 2021, presented to the Marion County Board of County Commissioners during its August 3 meeting.

Presented on a monthly basis, the report sheds light on solid waste operations at different county waste facilities and provides a breakdown of waste, and litter, collection.

According to the report, 108,760 pounds of litter were collected through the month of June. That includes over 42,000 by community service workers and over 57,000 from staff, county contracted employees, and litter collectors.

Inmates collected over 10,000 pounds.

In May, over 118,000 pounds of litter were collected across Marion County and in 2020, over 1.5 million pounds of litter were collected.

The report comes in light of the new Marion County Litter Task Force that is slowly taking shape. The task force, which is ramping up for a September 2021 launch, aims to improve litter education and collection across the county.Â
