25-year-old man dies after being hit by car in Holladay

HOLLADAY, Utah (KUTV) — A 25-year-old man has died after being hit by a car on Van Winkle Expressway in Holladay.

Sgt. Melody Cutler with the Unified Police Department told 2news they do not know why the man was walking on the roadway where it was very dark with no street lights.

The accident happened on Van Winkle Expressway at 1190 E. Van Winkle, with calls coming into the police at approximately 3:47 a.m.

A Nissan SUV was driving southbound when the driver didn't see the man walking and hit him.

No foul play is suspected and the driver is cooperating with police. Officers said no alcohol was detected on the driver.

The 25-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the victim lives approximately one mile away from where he was walking, so he could have possibly been walking home. His name has not yet been released.
