More Ohio counties have substantial, high COVID transmission rates. CDC recommends masks

The CDC recently announced that people in areas with substantial or high COVID-19 transmission rates should start wearing masks again indoors, even if they have been vaccinated. 

When it was first announced, that included 23 counties. Now, Ohio has 64 counties with substantial or high transmission rates. The data includes the week of July 25-31.

New coronavirus cases leaped in Ohio in the week ending Sunday, rising 60.8% as 8,030 cases were reported. The previous week had 4,995 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.

In the week ending Sunday, Ohio reported administering another 106,613 vaccine doses, including 59,298 first doses. In the previous week, the state administered 84,152 vaccine doses, including 46,634 first doses. In all, Ohio reported it has administered 11,104,423 total doses.

In the latest week coronavirus cases in the United States increased 53.6% from the week before, with 559,334 cases reported.
